April 2022
Martine’s work for Yale University Press on Sir Nikolaus Pevsner’s Buildings of England: Nottinghamshire finally comes to the walls, only two years later than planned!
Her exhibition: Martine Hamilton Knight: Pevsner on Camera opens at Lakeside Arts at University Park, Nottingham (April 15th – 31st August 2022).
With some 90 framed photographs across two spaces, the show allows viewers to see a variety of buildings from the county’s earliest architecture – an Anglo Saxon tablet in Shelford Church, to the most modern of its structures, The GSK Carbon Neutral Laboratory at The University of Nottingham’s Jubilee Campus.
Room 2 explores Representation; a display of how ‘not all is not as it seems’ when it comes to depicting the built environment in a context such as the Pevsner guide books. With this series, longevity dictates that architecture must be rendered ‘timeless’ and not anchored to the moment a camera’s shutter is pressed, which in the case of this particular book and exhibition, is the current date.
Buildings of England: Nottinghamshire is likely to be on sale for several decades, and the architecture within must appear without inhibiting factors such as people, vehicles or styles which date the work.
Head on over to the gallery with your family and friends and see for yourself this summer.
