December 2009
Martine has been asked by Gwen Cottrell of the RIBA to participate in an exciting project called RIBA 50/50 in 2010.
The project aims to take architecture and design to a wider audience than might normally be expected to show an interest in the built environment. By showcasing the best of the East Midlands’ buildings from the last 50 years, there will be an exhibition and accompanying gazetteer publication. Plans include touring the show to art galleries, shopping centres and agricultural shows in the region, so that a high number of individuals can browse and learn about the work of the RIBA and the design of some of our best loved, and sometimes more unusual buildings.
Houses are likely to be excluded from the selection, as for obvious reasons, owners won’t want the public turning up with regularity after the show goes on tour, but instead it will showcase educational & arts buildings, commercial, industrial and healthcare. Martine will photograph several buildings where it hasn’t been possible to trace existing high quality images, and in addition, she’s offered to co-sponsor the project by providing some golden-greats from the BUILTVISION archive.
