PORTFOLIO | BUILDINGS OF ENGLAND  – NOTTINGHAMSHIRE & STAFFORDSHIRE

Sir Nikolaus Pevsner’s seminal ‘Buildings of England’ series first appeared in 1951 as a series of county by county guides to architecture from the earliest times to the present day. Martine has photographed for two of the revisions, Buildings of England: Nottinghamshire (2020) and Buildings of England: Staffordshire (2024).  Both are available from Yale University Press and good bookshops.

Some 90+ images were the subject of Martine Hamilton Knight: Pevsner on Camera, an exhibition at Djangoly Gallery, Lakeside Arts, Nottingham from April – Aug 2022, reviewed in Architecture Today magazine. Martine explored the subject of ‘timelessness’ in representing the historic built environment, in an essay for Quart Journal (2022) University of Wroclaw. She continues to investigate this as part of her academic research.
